Welcome to the Tour de Plantersville!

The Tour de Plantersville is a ride through the only Scenic Byway in Georgetown County. Along the Byway and throughout the ride there are plantations from the colonial era that are part of the region’s rich rice farming history. These sites contain several pre-Civil War landmarks – mansions, slave houses, churches, rice Chimneys, and other ruins. There are designated stops along the ride to encourage cyclists to explore history.

The Tour de Plantersville offers metric century 62-mile, 25-mile, and 12-mile ride options through the natural setting of Plantersville South Carolina. The ride is perfect for avid cyclists training for their next race or families wanting to share a healthy adventure together. Riders gather between 7 and 8:30 a.m. at the Plantersville Elementary School (1668 Exodus Drive, Georgetown) where the Cultural Festival takes place. Festival entry and parking are FREE so come out and cheer on our riders while enjoying the live music, local cuisine, and children’s activities.

About Us

The Tour de Plantersville is a unique cycling event designed to bring people together while supporting local youth...

Why Plantersville South Carolina

Plantersville offers the only Scenic Byway in Georgetown County. Along the Byway and throughout the ride there are ten plantations from the Colonial era that are part of the region’s rich rice farming history. These sites contain a number of pre-Civil War landmarks – mansions, slave houses, churches, rice Chimneys and other ruins. There are designated stops along the ride to encourage bike-riders to explore these grounds.

In addition, the area is rich in natural beauty. The Dirleton Plantation-Samworth Wildlife Management Area is located along this stretch of byway and offers a chance to see some of the region’s wildlife in its natural habitat.

The 5th Annual Tour de Plantersville on October 28th Offers New Medals for Cyclists and a Cultural Festival with Live Music

GEORGETOWN, SC — The Village Group will host the 5th Annual Tour de Plantersville on Saturday, Oct. 28, from Plantersville Elementary School, located at 1668 Exodus Drive. The cycling adventure offers metric century 62-mile, 25-mile, and 12-mile ride options through the natural setting of the Plantersville community of South Carolina.

The ride is perfect for avid cyclists training for their next race or families wanting to share a healthy adventure together.

For the first time ever, the event will offer newly crafted medals for cycling participants with each ride distance indicated on the ribbon. The medals highlight the classic Tour de Plantersville logo and recognize this year’s Title Sponsor, South Carolina’s Hammock Coast. Event participants can plan their stay and learn more about the area by visiting the Hammock Coast website at https://hammockcoastsc.com/stay/.

“The scenic beauty of Georgetown County has drawn visitors from all around the world to experience South Carolina’s Hammock Coast, be it our pristine beaches, our famed historic sites, or the picturesque inland communities like Plantersville,” said Mark A. Stevens, director of tourism development for the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce. “The Hammock Coast is honored to once again be the Title Sponsor for the 5th annual Tour de Plantersville. We know this event is not only one local residents look forward to each year, but it is also a draw for tourists seeking a memorable autumn vacation.

“What could be better on a crisp fall day than to take off on your bicycle along some of the most beautiful scenery in South Carolina?”

Get Carried Away and White House Farms are also returning this year as Presenting Sponsors and shared a few words about the opportunity.

“Get Carried Away is proud to sponsor the 2023 Tour de Plantersville event,” said Brian Henry, mayor of Pawleys Island and president of Get Carried Away Southern Market & Catering. “We support the many programs provided by The Village Group and the lives that they enrich. We look forward to riding and experiencing this beautiful and historic area again.”

Don Quattlebaum, president of White House Farms LLC, said the tour “is a unique way to encourage our community and beyond to come together and enjoy the area's beauty, explore its history, and most importantly promote its brighter future.”

“As we enter our 4th season of farming Andy's Charleston Gold and our 2nd season of Andy's Santee Gold Rice, White House Farms works towards our goal of bringing beneficial enterprise to Plantersville.” Quattlebaum added.

The event also boasts a fun-filled day of activities with its cultural festival which showcases live music and a vast selection of treasures from local vendors. Stop by one of the tasty food trucks for a variety of local delights after a rejuvenating day of outdoor activity. From early Christmas shopping to face painting, the event offers something for everyone to enjoy.

Event sponsorships and registration fees raise funds for The Village Group, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that helps hundreds of underserved students in Georgetown County prepare for college and career success each year.
